Top 10 Cities Of Pakistan

The criteria for selecting ten top most liveable cities in Pakistan was based on population densities extrapolated with all the cultural and infrastructural benefits on offer with fewer problems related to crime or congestion at this point in time. This criteria also takes into account the availability of jobs, and business opportunities.

1- Lahore

So what makes Lahore top the list of most liveable cities in Pakistan? Well, the city has got the jobs in every field, a thriving business, less street crimes for its population, improved public transport, best road infrastructure in Pakistan, and Lahore is cultural capital of Pakistan. With multiple food streets to numerous theaters and art galleries, city also boasts plethora of historical places and multiple museums. It has also got good universities, colleges and technical institutes. There also are many good parks and green places to go. Real estate is both expensive and affordable, and depends where you are looking.

2- Wah Cantt

Wah Cantt is a small city, some 40 km from capital Islamabad. It’s the only city in South Asia with 100% literacy rate, and only Singapore rivals to it when it comes to quality education. Just 10km in length, this city not only has a women university, it has also got a medical college, hundreds of schools by top school systems and public schools, with many technical institutes. This city has also got employers in form of Pakistan’s defense industry plus the business is good too. Street crimes are still under control, and sense of community prevails. It also has got a four star hotel with numerous entertainment joints scattered throughout and in surroundings. It also has got great picnic spots, spectacular views, and historical places. Local transport is perhaps one of the best in the country. Real estate is expensive though, all around. The thing which this city lacks is metro train linking all corners of city.

3- Islamabad

Islamabad the beautiful, as the green capital of Pakistan is called by the locals with love. With green belts, wide boulevards, tree-lined streets, Islamabad sparkles in the backdrop of lush green rolling Margalla Hills. At its one side, Rawal lake glimmers, while on the other side, vast bushland exists with villages dotting the landscape. Its a modern city with all the ingredients in place except public transport. Yes, its the capital city with huge population with no organized metro bus or train service. There are privately owned, very poor makeshift buses and vans with exorbitant fares and rude drivers and of course the spineless taxi drivers. This alone is enough to put anyone off. If you don’t have your own car, then don’t visit Islamabad.

4- Sialkot

Sialkot has the jobs, business and it cherishes innovation and hardwork. Locals are generous and enterprising. Infrastructure is better too, though still needs improvement. Distant views of towering mountains are breath-taking, and so is the rural touch of this city. Though not really a tourist attraction, it serves everyone right.

5- Abbotabad

If you want to combine work and pleasure and laid back life, this city is for you. Tucked nicely away from the main roads of Pakistan, this city is kind of gateway to the Northern areas of Pakistan which host sky touching mountains like K2 and Nanga Parbat, lakes, rivers, meadows, valleys, and exquisite flaura and fauna. Jobs and business are available in hospitality areas and there is numerous options with engaging in trade with China through silk route. Education opportunities are marvelous too.

6- Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur is a dark horse. With recent developments and the initiation of Quaid-e-Azam solar park nearby, this city is poised to emerge as regional center and would perhaps bypass Multan. The citizens of Bahawalpur have remained backward for sometime, but due to their sheer love of education, they are bouncing back. This surreal city on the edge of desert is right out of some romantic tale with gorgeous winter days and coolest summer nights.

7- Peshawar

Don’t get cajoled by the media coverage of gory incidents. This city is still one of the best to live in and grow up. You have to be careful of course but that is the story in many areas of Pakistan, and perhaps the world. I can assure you that its much better than any Brazilian city. People are very kind-hearted and consider their guests as some divine gift. Though infrastructure is poor, the cost of living is very affordable, perhaps one of the best in Pakistan. Food, rents, transport, and education are very much in grasp of almost everyone. Food joints are really something to write home about.

8- Rawalpindi

This city rubs its shoulder with the capital Islamabad, but still has got a long way to go when it comes to modernity, though things are improving. Road infrastructure is almost great with many widenend roads, overhead bridges, underpasses, and pedestrian crossings. This city also lacks good public transport. Education and health facilities are great. There is disparity between real estate prices. It also has got many good places to go out. Jobs and business are also in average supply.

9- Faisalabad

This city has suffered a lot in recent year by the hands of power shortage, but make no mistake it is still the Manchester of Pakistan. Industry can be found in almost every home of this city. The whole household works as entrepreneurs, and you can learn business at its practical peak in this city overnight. They are the exporters of Pakistan, and pride themselves in business. Jobs are here and so is business. City needs uplift, but still is very much affordable.

10- Karachi

It’s the city of poor and middle class. It has an infinite heart to accept and embrace anyone from any where. This city is Pakistan’s most affordable city in terms of residence, food, and even healthcare. Not as safe as you would think, but the locals have learned to weave their way through it. This mega cosmopolitan with oozing population has got beaches, parks, foot complexes, shopping malls, shanty towns, posh areas, and skyscrapers. Jobs are here for everyone and despite of all the problems, business still thrives. Once again, its a shame that Karachi is perhaps the only metropolitan in world with 25 million plus population with no public transport. There again are rickety and makeshift buses which are not roadworthy by any standard hauling people in this city. If any city needs metro train and metro buses in world, this is the one.
